With more than 50 years of experience, ESI Construction operates in 41 states and 36 countries, serving various sectors, including retail, healthcare, education, hospitality, public works, and industrial projects.

Hill's entry into the construction industry came after his time in banking. From 1985 to 1992, Hill worked in the banking sector in Dallas, Texas, where he gained valuable business and financial experience. In 1992, he decided to acquire ESI, a company that had fallen dormant and set about revitalizing it. Tom Hill CEO, started with just four employees, and over the next several decades, he expanded the company into a thriving business, now employing over 1,100 people. One of his most notable achievements is ensuring that every employee at ESI has fully employer-paid medical and dental insurance, a testament to his commitment to their well-being.

Under Thomas D. Hill’s leadership, ESI Construction has become known for delivering high-quality projects while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and client satisfaction. ESI has formed lasting relationships with over 450 clients, including some of the most recognized brands in the world, such as Albertsons, Arby’s, AutoZone, Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, Chick-fil-A, Costco, Homewood Suites, JC Penney, Kohl’s, Krispy Kreme, Kroger, Old Navy, Payless Shoe Source, PetSmart, Popeyes, Ross, Starbucks, Walgreens, Walmart, and Whole Foods. Hill’s entrepreneurial success and leadership have earned him the 40 Under 40 award, a recognition of his contributions to the growth of ESI Construction. Throughout his tenure as CEO, Hill has placed great emphasis on safety. Under his leadership, ESI Construction has completed over 79.5 million square feet of retail projects, maintaining an impressive Experience Modification Rate of 0.43. This outstanding safety record speaks volumes about the company’s commitment to maintaining a safe work environment for its employees and clients.

ESI Construction offers a comprehensive suite of services, including construction management, general contracting, design-build, self-performance, and special projects. The company’s construction management services prioritize transparency, informing clients about project budgets, schedules, and quality at every stage. In general contracting, ESI applies a well-established project management process, leveraging the latest construction technology to ensure the efficient execution of projects. Hill also led the expansion of ESI Construction’s self-perform field trade work, including specialties in concrete paving, structural concrete, earthwork, flatwork, rough carpentry, fixturing, and specialty electrical services. The Special Projects Division focuses on smaller construction assignments, tenant improvements, and remodels, while the Express Division ensures quick responses to urgent requests, providing around-the-clock service for minor repairs and large-scale projects.

In addition to his professional success, Thomas D. Hill is committed to giving back to his community. In 2018, he founded ESI Cares, a nonprofit organization supporting local charitable initiatives. One of the primary programs of ESI Cares is its metal recycling program, which raises funds to support community development projects. Hill has personally contributed to numerous charitable causes, including donating a car to Notus High School’s Driver’s Ed program, sponsoring field trips for local elementary school students, and covering tuition costs for private school students. He and his wife, Kimbra, supported various regional initiatives, including the Caldwell Police Department’s mounted unit and the Caldwell Fair 4-H Sale.

Hill’s philanthropic efforts also show his commitment to education and youth. He has been a long-time donor to the Victory Center for Autism and has personally sponsored several students at Boise State University by covering their tuition costs. Thomas D. Hill was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and graduated with honors from Baylor University in 1985, earning a BBA in Finance. After completing his education, Hill moved to Idaho, where he would eventually become the leader of ESI Construction. He and his wife, Kimbra, live in Eagle, Idaho, with their two children, Piper and Teddy. Outside of his professional and philanthropic activities, Hill enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, hiking, and flying.
